Food handling establishments, like commercial kitchens, can provide ideal harborage for several species of pests. Discover pest hot spots on the interactive image below and click on each number to find recommended tips and treatments.

Fogging concentrates are ideal for treating drop ceilings and wall voids. Dusts can also be effective in treating wall voids.

In and around electrical boxes/outlets

Shockwave 1 with its included straw is perfect for crack-and-crevice treatments around electrical sockets. These are also great locations to place baits. Dusting can be a good option around electrical, as well.

Sinks, backsplashes and dishwashing areas

Make sure to check hollow spaces like lips over backsplashes and hollow legs of equipment. For treatment in these areas, an IGR is essential to gain long-term control. Pair NyGuard IGR with sprays and fogging concentrates to ensure knockdown of existing cockroach populations.

Plumbing pipes and plates

Care should be taken in plumbing areas as most sprays and baits are unsuitable in these areas – sprays are often restricted in these areas and baits will wash away. An IGR can be used in these areas for future success, as it will break the life cycle of future generations. Pair NyGuard IGR with certain dust treatments and foaming drain products for best success. Make sure to always follow label instructions for use sites and mixing allowances.

Behind equipment

While the front of equipment can be tricky, sprays and baits are great for treating behind equipment. Also keep an eye out for ants behind equipment – make sure that you have a broad-spectrum product that is labeled for multiple pests to save you time.

Front edges of kitchen equipment

Always be sure to treat these areas when operations have ceased and no food is out. Avoid sprays at the risk of droplets landing on food. Baits are excellent options in these areas. For customers who are looking for more immediate knockdown in these areas, try one of MGK’s botanical solutions, as they have very little residual and will degrade quickly.

Garbage areas are what flies like best. Most commercial kitchens are removing waste quickly, but if you do find an establishment struggling with this, a fly bait, when used with a commercial bait station, can work very well in controlling populations. Fly baits also work great outdoors in dumpster areas.
